i am a pretty big fan of Ugly Betty. as much as i've tried to limit my tv viewing, i'm hooked! i don't know if it is the fun, bright colors or the entertainingly vivid characters, but the show just really seems to strike a chord with me. i guess i can relate to miss betty as many others do, which is probably why the show is still on the air. feeling nerdy and trying to fit in is a pretty universal experience don't you think?
here are a few things that i can relate to as a veiwer:
*i am a women of color.
*i come from immigrant parents.
*as a result of the first two items, i am very family oriented.
*i had and continue to have big dreams of making it in a big city.
*i've been burned before by people i've trusted and loved.
*i can be very naive.
*i can be freakishly cheerful or perky.
*i'm a romantic.
*i can be a perfectionist when it comes to work.
*i too have a lot to learn about life.
*i don't quite fit in with the fashionistas either, but they just fascinate me!
*unfortunately, i think i look like her. (not America Ferrera, because she is gorgeous.) this one time, i had Ugly Betty on TV and my 2 year old daughter, as limited as her speech was, saw a shot of Betty and said, "Mommy!" Must be the glasses, dark hair, and roundish figure.
